Would it be fair to say you are interested in Madden NFL 10?

If so you might want to read this review about Madden 10, before you buy it.

I've only been playing Madden for a few years, but among my friends who've been playing the series for a while, many felt that the older versions on the PS2 were better than 09. Madden improves with its 2010 version. Madden '10 has much more to offer than '09, but also has some shortcomings.

MORE REALISTIC
Gameplay looks incredibly realistic. Graphics and broadcast also are more realistic, and at times makes you think you're watching TV instead of playing a video game! The use of different camera angles make it a lot like a broadcast, and I especially like the depth-of-field, which makes the game look so much cooler since the background is blurred, drawing your eyes more to the object in focus.

CO-OP MODE
The new co-op mode feature is a lot of fun if you want to play with someone else. It adds to the whole online experience that's permeating the console-gaming world. The downside to this mode is that only the host controls the plays (the guest only sees the play after it's been selected). This in itself makes it almost essential to maintain constant contact with your partner to better coordinate, i.e. via headset.

ONLINE FRANCHISE MODE
There is an improved online play experience, online franchise mode. This is a HUGE improvement from last year's online leagues. It really feels, well...real! That being said, there are shortcomings, such as an inability to trade draft picks. Still, a great feature.

COST/THE MONEY ISSUE
Like EA's NBA Live 09 Dynamic DNA, online franchise mode is a seemingly helpful feature that comes at a hidden cost: only buyers of a new copy can benefit. Your box comes with a code to authorize the franchise; while this is a useful feature to conceivably halt piracy, the real sufferers are used-game buyers.

I understand that they want to prevent piracy, but they really hurt people on tighter budgets that are true fans of the NFL, but might not be able to afford a new game, or find it questionable to pony up more money just to participate in the online franchise mode. Some say you can't blame EA for trying to make a few extra bucks, or that a few dollars isn't a big deal. Yes you can, and to some, yes it is!

To seal the deal on this argument, is the ELITE Madden mode. Elite players can play ranked matches on All-Madden difficulty settings. In other words, UNLESS YOU PAY $5 EXTRA, you WON'T be able to play on All-Madden difficulty for ranked matches...

More realistic gameplay, online franchises, and co-op mode are great features in Madden '10 that makes this much more worth getting than Madden '09. That being said, this game is very representative of the trend in video-gaming towards a more tiered system (which I'm not a fan of!). But still, a great game, highly recommended :-)

Paint - ***1/2
I honestly can't believe that this figure came out of the same plant as the recent Cult Classis series 7. There's simply no comparsion between the quaity of the paint on this figure and the work on something like Stuntman Mike.

Sculpting - ****
While NECA (and a number of other manufacturers, big and small) have had some serious issues with their paint operations lately, their sculpts haven't had the same issues. Underneath the sometimes less than quality paint work has been some great sculpts, unable to find their way out.

Packaging - ***1/2
Yep, even though they seem to have fallen out of favor a bit, I still love the clamshells. You'll need a sharp knift to get this figure out, and there's still way too many twisty ties once you do, but the clamshell holds up to peg and storage wear extremely well.

Articulation- ***
The articulation on this figure is surprisingly good. Just looking at the figure in the package, you might be led to believe that he's merely a Nerd Hummel. That couldn't be further from the truth.

Accessories - **1/2
There's not a ton of stuff here, but he has the most critcal items.

Fun Factor - ***1/2
There's no reason - beyond content perhaps - that your average 8 year old couldn't play with this figure. He's plenty sturdy enough to handle any sandbox battles, with solid joints and heavy plastic.

Value - **1/2 by himself; *** as a boxed set
If you pick this guy up by himself, you can find him for around $15. For specialty market figures right now, that's about the average price.

Overall - ***1/2
This is a series that isn't on my personal radar, since I'm not a big fan of the game. I thought they looked fine hanging on the peg, but as usual, seeing something in the package is nothing like having it out in your hands. This figure is surprsingly nice, with articulation that works much better than I anticipated, and excellent sculpting and paint. Fans of the game should be very happy with these, and hopefully NECA will manage to produce a broad enough range of figures to make them satisfied.
